Prevention is always better than the cure.

With 25 years in healthcare under my belt, I truly understand that prevention is better than the cure.

I struggle to understand why people wait until they lose their health before they start to change things.

I encourage you all to start listening to and tuning in to the body’s telltale signs that it may be under stress.

Fatigue, low energy, headaches, joint/body pain. I could list 100 symptoms that people often overlook until the tap on the shoulder becomes much harder and louder to ignore.

I wanted to take this opportunity as we approach the end of the year, to bring up and discuss this concept of preventive healthcare, which feels like it is really starting to take centre stage in the integrative health space. Of course, we can’t discuss this without mentioning Dr Peter Attia, widely regarded as a leader in preventative healthcare. His vision of “Medicine 3.0” encourages a radical shift away from a reactive approach to health and toward proactive, preventive measures that empower individuals to take charge of their wellbeing before they get sick!

 The Flaws of Traditional Medicine

Traditional medicine often operates on a reactive basis, it primarily addresses health issues after they have manifested, think quick fixes and treatments for symptoms rather than understanding the root causes. However, Attia and myself advocate for a model where healthcare professionals and patients collaborate to prevent diseases before they begin.

Imagine a healthcare system that prioritises sustaining good health through informed lifestyle choices and interventions tailored to individual needs. This is the essence of Medicine 3.0.

The Foundations of Preventative Health

The internet and social media are full of trendy biohacks or the latest wellness fads, Attia’s philosophy and my own emphasise the return to basics, a call for simplicity in our approach to health. Here are some crucial elements to consider as we reflect on our health choices and how we may want 2026 to look like.

Whole, Real Foods: Instead of processed foods laden with additives and preservatives (the ones with barcodes in bags and boxes we often see in stores), focus on nourishing your body with whole, unprocessed ingredients. Think fresh vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Such foods provide the essential nutrients our bodies need to thrive and significantly reduce the risk of chronic illness.

Movement Daily: Incorporating physical activity into our daily routines is vital for maintaining optimal health. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga session, or strength training, consistent movement helps regulate weight, boost mood, and improve cardiovascular health. The goal is to find activities you enjoy and make them a part of your life. It is believed that if we could put exercise into a pill, then it could solve many of the world’s chronic diseases.

Reducing Stress: Chronic stress can have detrimental effects on both the body and mind, contributing to various health issues. Implementing mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling can help manage stress levels and promote mental well-being. It’s essential to find time for self care and do things that bring you joy.

Optimising Sleep: Sleep is often overlooked but plays a crucial role in our overall health. Prioritising quality sleep allows the body to recover, regenerate, and maintain a healthy immune system. Creating a calming bedtime routine, limiting screen time, and ensuring a comfortable sleep environment can contribute to better sleep quality.

Living Intentionally: Finally, it’s about living with intention. Set health goals that resonate with your values and aspirations, and be mindful of the choices you make daily. Evaluate how your actions align with your long term health objectives and make adjustments as needed. Remember nothing happens overnight, but if you aim for 1% better everyday or ‘baby steps’ then eventually you will have long lasting change.

Looking Ahead

As we wrap up this year of Precision Wellbeing and my new online venture Empowered Prevention, why don’t you try to commit to embrace the principles of Medicine 3.0. It’s not about chasing quick fixes or following the latest fad, instead, focus on foundational practices that promote long lasting health. By prioritising preventative measures and making informed choices about diets, physical activity, stress management, sleep, and overall lifestyle, we can pave the way for a healthier, more vibrant future.

Thank you all for being part of the Precision Wellbeing and Empowered Prevention family.

look forward to more connection and education in 2026
