The Importance of the Lymphatic System: A Guide to Breast Health and Overall Wellness
This month, I wanted to introduce you all to a topic that might just be more important than your morning coffee, well for me anyway! and my current new obsession, the lymphatic system and the best lymphatic brush on the market by Cecily Braden.
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting with the renowned lymphatic massage specialist Miria Aman – for more details on the wonderful Miria her website is Home | Miria Aman | Empowering Wellness | Massage Therapy | Auckland We spent the morning together and she wowed me with her knowledge, passion and the benefits of this wonderful therapy.
So, what exactly is the Lymphatic System?
I love a good analogy so, imagine your body as a bustling city, your blood vessels are the roads, transporting all those essential nutrients. Now, the lymphatic system, think of it as the drainage system that keeps your city from flooding. It’s responsible for clearing out toxins, waste, and excess fluid, and it’s the home of our immune soldiers, the white blood cells. Without it, well, you’d be in a bit of a sticky situation. Literally.
Why Should We Care?
Okay, so you might be wondering why you should bother about this lymphatic thingamajig. Well, for starters, a happy and free flowing lymphatic system means better immune system and overall health. I was specifically interested in the breast focus massage and brushing as I have a course teaching women about reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence. By keeping those lymph nodes moving can help reduce the risk of various health issues, including cancer.
What Can Block Your Lymphatic Flow?
Now, let’s address how the lymph system can get blockages. You might be surprised to learn that our everyday choices can contribute to lymphatic dysfunction:
- Toxins: We’re surrounded by them! From the food we munch on to the air we breathe, chemical nasties can contribute to blockages. Consider limiting processed foods and focusing on whole, natural options.
- Dehydration: If you’re not drinking enough water, your lymph fluid becomes thicker. Aim for around two litres a day, or more if you’re active!
- Lack of Movement: Our bodies were designed to move, so if you’re in a sedentary job it might slow down your lymph flow. Get up, stretch, and move throughout the day.
- Underwire Bras: Yes, you read that right. Those pointy contraptions can restrict lymph flow in the breasts. Opt for comfy, supportive alternatives that let you breathe and move freely. Trust me, your boobs will thank you! I am loving the wire free bras made with all natural fibres from Videris, see link here for more information Videris | No underwires here. Meet the Cecily Braden Lymphatic Brush
Now, let’s talk tools. Enter the Cecily Braden lymphatic brush, your new best friend for promoting lymphatic drainage. This magical little brush helps with circulation, reducing puffiness and encouraging lymph flow, especially vital for breast health.
But a word of warning: steer clear of those cheap knockoffs! Fake brushes are all over the internet. They often lack the quality and design that make the Cecily Braden brush a standout. If you want the real deal, invest in the original.
How to Use It: Step-by-Step
Alright, it’s time for your practical guide on how to use this brush like a pro!
- For Breast Health: Start on the outside of your breast, using gentle, upward strokes towards your underarm for about 5-10 minutes. This encourages lymphatic flow away from the breast tissue and promotes overall drainage. You can also find tutorials on YOUTUBE and Cecily Braden website
- For Face and Neck: You’re not just limited to your breasts! Use soft, circular motions to brush your face and neck. This helps to banish any puffiness and give you that fresh glow.
I spend about 5minutes each on my face and breast area every evening before bed. EASY!
The lymphatic system may be a new area of understanding for you, but it’s crucial for our health, especially when it comes to breast health and preventing recurrence. By embracing hydration, movement, and innovative tools like the Cecily Braden brush, we can support our bodies in more ways than one.
