Histamine intolerance –
I am seeing more and more of this in clinic.
People often present with a cluster of symptoms that can all be pieced together to indicate histamine intolerance. These can be headaches, migraines, nasal congestion, hives, itching, digestive issues like bloating and diarrhea, heavy/painful periods, and even anxiety or mood disturbances.
Histamine is not only a compound naturally produced in the body, it is also found in commonly eaten foods like cheese, chocolate, alcohol, fermented foods and cured meats. Finding the driver of the intolerance is the first step, along with a small amount of time on a low histamine diet and taking some supplements that inhibit mast cells (which is where histamine is released).
If you would like to investigate whether histamine intolerance could be causing you health issues, get in touch and let’s discuss.
